No game sheet to fall back on but bear with me. Great game in Moosomin last nite. Estimated attendance 500. Pot of gold $1,630. winner unknown. What's with all the 8:30 start times?
Rangers scored two crappy goals to lead 2-0 three minutes in. Within 10 minutes, while great chances by Grenfell, Rangers hit two posts. Ranger #19 Skulmoski rapes a Spitfire D-Man and scores a beauty, 3-zip after one.
6 minutes into the second, Skulmoski deflects a Buddy Holloway point shot on the p.p. making it 4-0. Minutes later, nicest goal I have seen all year as I was watching at the far end across from the upstairs corner bar, which was packed as usual. Buddy dekes two defenders close in and sets up Justin Lamontagne for a gift tap-in and it was 5-zip. Fowlie scores with a minute left in the second, 5-1 after two. #4 Schneider on a breakaway shorthanded late in the game, final 5-2.
Rangers played #25 McGonigal on the point and picked up #3 Travis Statz from Wapella. They both played great D. Buddy and Skulmoski were the best forwards. For Grenfell, Fowlie & Schneider. Small #8 forward Foster was the best of the bunch.
Grenfell was more polished but goalie Kyler Beckett was by far the better goalie and had luck on his side. The Spitfires had chances but couldn't finish. #34 Kilgore can play better and likely will Sunday night 6:00 p.m. in Moosomin. Grenfell can easily win this series.
Hoium and Barath reffed and for the most part did OK. Penalties appeared even. Trailing 3 or 4 zip, Grenfell had a partial breakaway with no shot taken due to interference. I thought maybe a penalty shot but not even a call. Strange.
The big question is, what does Ranger Coach Ferrel Horn do for net on Sunday? He has been flopping Beckett and his son Levi. Beckett looked awesome. Time will tell.
