Was my first senior hockey game in a few years last night and seen the axemen were having a special event for their home opener. 1000 fans jammed into the rink in swan river. Didn't know senior hockey was thriving so much it was unbelievable to see. Axemen waxed Wapella although I heard they were missing a couple good players but regardless the axemen look good and the support they have is crazy.

Yeah because they were raising money for a lady with breast cancer. 50/50 had multiple $10,000 draws. Raised over 40k they don’t get this support all year just a special game. Also Swan should have a good team they have a Junior hockey club in town. So all their players are washed up MJ players.

While the axemen won the game with a landslide, there’s something bigger here. There was a community of people to come together to help an individual who has been dealt a crappy pair of cards. I think is unbelievable to see them rally behind the benefit. And truly that’s bigger than the game itself. Every town should strive to help out people in their communities in need. Great job by the Axemen organization.

A senior hockey team in small town Manitoba just raised almost $80,000 with their community for a cause in less than a week. Find me another team anywhere that can do that. If that doesn't scream support then I don't know what does. This is bigger than some NHL draws. You must be a real treat to hang out with if you're going to take a negative from this. Bravo axemen. Proud to have you in the SEHL.

I love that they were able to do that. I know of a couple other teams that have done it recently. I know porcupine had a big one last Christmas for a little girl and Wadena a couple years back for a young boy. Some of these SR teams are what keep rinks open and do so much for the community and a lot of times these small town teams that aren’t the greatest get flack and chirped. Hats off for all the effort that went into the weekends fundraiser
